Seaspeak has one definite article, e, for both the singular and plural. There is no indefinite article, but a noun without an article is presumed to be indefinite.
Seaspeak also has particles as in Japanese, which are suffixes or short words that (usually) follow the modified noun, verb, adjective, or sentence. There are several types:
-
Question particles: tithi sentence final to form a yes/no question
-
Requests: aro before verb & te sentence final to form a request
-
Suggestion particles: dale “perhaps” sentence initial, used with the cohortive form of verb
-
Negation particles: do before the noun phrase and na before the verb
-
If-then particle: ruto
-
Verb passivizer: -zo (as in eat vs. eaten by)
